Default Leveling and CV Angles

In regards to leveling kits, I keep hearing about CV angles, and how changing them is detrimental.

I'm assuming a CV is the same as a driveshaft, and I have lowered every car I've owned, and never had a problem.

So why is the H3 any different?

Can anyone substantiate their claims of problems caused from leveling?

CV joints (Constant Velocity) is the knuckle joint that allows the Independant Suspenion to float, turn and articulate, without having a solid straight axle..there is a normal angle of the dangle that the CV joints run at without undue wear on them..so the more you drop your front wheels or raise the front end, the CV to wheel hub must change too and it will see the increased angle and put strees on the joint.

Do full lift kit's, such as Tuff Country, correct this?

Any idea how long it takes for this wear to become noticeable?

And what will be noticed?

I have not heard of anything concrete from any H3 owners that had CV problems after a lift..But I have heard of other vehicles blowing parts of the transfer case apart...One in particular on a Land Rover and it cost $9000 to fix..[&:]

I can imagine though if a CV joint was going, it would click on turns and make all kinds of noises.

I downloaded the Truxxx leveling kit installation instructions and they make it very clear to set the ride height to 24.25 inches, OR you will experience premature wear on the CV and ball joints.

That must be the limits on these CV joints then..I'd be concerend about a lift kit personally, especially when they even mention the CV joints in the kit's instructions..I don't know or have a lot of experience with lift kits, so I donno...sounds risky.

The measurement is from the center of the wheel hub to the bottom of the fender. I've had the kit for about 4 months and been pretty happy with it. The 35's love the extra room
