Default Let's talk about iPods

I am not an iPod fan because of their proprietary way of doing things. I have a little Sansa c200 MP3 player which I had integrated into my truck via a hardwired FM Modulator.

I have been getting numerous requests from people in my company to help them with their iPod woes, buying them, setting them up, transferring music to a new PC, etc. and is something I am starting to accept as the norm. As unfortunate as the monopoly seems to be growing, I now know that if I don't soon start using one and learning the intricacies of iTunes, that I am throwing away a potential 2nd income source, literally.

I'm going to take my wife's 1rst generation iPod nano and hook it up tonight. I know iTunes fairly well, but nowhere near as well as you iPod power users out there. I'm going to play around with the AAC compression since the latest version seems pretty decent for normal old rock music.

Does anybody have a preferred car iPod FM modulator/cradle/charger all-in-one device? My co-worker has one and it works amazingly well. I think that company named IO makes it. I couldn't believe the sound quality coming from FM modulation. I'm probably going to go with something that like for the truck, but I want a cradle with no dangly dongly wires and something that just plugs right into the adapter easily.

Any suggestions?

Wow, I could not agree more with your post. My wife has the nano, it is a great little device. I hate itunes and the propritearty nature of everything that is ipod. [:'(]

I want to keep my original radio I decided. I like my GPS right where it is.

I think the company is DLO that makes the nice streamlined products. This one is sweet:

Now I can't ever complain again about not having money since I'd be buying a toy that is equal in price to what this iPod is that I'll be using

That's what I'm looking for though, something like this, but not no 8" long.

Here's another one. This one is kinda cool because you can customize the length of your support:

I use the one from Monster, also available at Best Buy - just a cable, no cradle. I don't like to leave the dock in sight because I believe it invites theft. They know there was an ipod in there and most people take them out and store them in the glove box or center console. The simple Monster version also makes it easier for me to use in rental cars.

In crowded FM markets the transmitters don't work as well - I didn't have good luck with it in San Fran, south Florida and a few other areas.

I agree with you on Apple's arrogance but their products do work well. I now have three ipods - Photo (used in the car and in a dock at work); shuffle (working out); Touch (used at home and when traveling). I've ripped a couple hundred CDs into MP3 format and imported those into iTunes. I like the MP3 format simply because it is so universal and it works in iTunes.

BTW, it may seem crazy to watch a movie on the 3" ipod touch screen, but really, is it worse than watching it on a 7" airplane monitor 8 feet away? The ipod touch is also great with the wifi access, again especially when traveling.

Yup. I used to have that one from Monster. That was a good one. The last one I had was the Belkin one which is also good. I know what you mean about having it stick out and people can see it, but I'll take my chances. I probably won't leave it in the car anyway. I dunno.

I use this one. I like it.

Only has one wire to the cig lighter. Keeps it charged as well. Also It has an auxillery in so if you have something that you want to plug into it such as a dvd player you could do that and listen to it through the stereo.

I bought a digital interface for the Deuce.... plug and play... sound quality is as good or better than XM... http://stores.ebay.com/Integration-Solutions

That guy is SO confidentin what he sells you that your instructions comes with his cell phone number in case you have an issue...

I bought the GF a 80gb Classic for Valentine's day.... she loves it...

There are a lot of converters out there... I used to have one that would change AAC... IE.. I by my songs and you buy your songs... BUT we can't share them.... this gixed that issue...

That's a nice one, but I honestly don't feel like screwing around with wiring anymore.

I did some searching and found one that has a special adapter for the Nano.

I'm waiting for it to come back in stock at CC. I I have a DLO docking station for my wife's iPod. Their stuff is top notch and gets good reviews.
