Just wondering when and how often should a k&n air filter be cleaned.I have a drop in one on my Alpha with a airdocs intake kit,and the filter has been in there for close to a year.Is it best to clean and reoil once a year,or when the air fiter guage showes its dirty.Just wondering what others in the forum do...

 

As I recall, K&N recommends cleaning every 50K miles. Obviously more often makes sense if you drive in really dusty/dirty environments.

 

It is said that the more dirty the filter gets the better it will filter, got this from a K&N rep years ago. I think 50k miles sounds like a good time to clean your air filter.

It really depends on how dirty your driving conditions get the filter. My rule of thumb is every 3rd to 5th oil change (somewhere around 12-20K), but if you are in a low dust area, you could go longer.
