Default Just ordered the Bilsteins.....

is this a job that anyone can do or should I pay to have this done? Now to decide on wheels and tires and what to do with the chrome grille.

There should already be a thread here somewhere about leveling the torsion bars and switching the shocks to Bilsteins. Usually that's the time you do it, and also get an alignment. Do a search, you should be able to find what your looking for.

oh, forgot to ask, also what kind of equipment are you going to be working with? Are you planning on doing this right in the driveway or do you have access to a lift?

I just leveled mine today by tightening the torsion bars. Worked out pretty good too. I cranked it to 23 1/4 inches on both sides. Took 4 turns on each.

I drove quite a bit today and it doesn't seem to be out of alignment whatsoever. I likely will not take it in for a new alignment. Nor will I buy the shocks. I may opt for a lift kit later though.

I did mine in my driveway. Took about an hour.
The only tricky part was removing and replacing the nut that holds the top of the shock on. It has a long thread travel in a limited clearance area. I used a box end wrench with a built in ratchet. It saves a lot of time and swearing. You can't use a socket because you need to hold the end of the shaft to keep it from spinning.

Theres no way that the toe is within spec. I highly doubt the camber is either, but I dont think there is alot they can do about it.

At least get the toe fixed, I guarantee that it is out of spec. mine was way off after level.

remember, suspension flexes concentrically, not linearly like most people think. Lowering suspension causes negative camber and toe out. raising causes positive camber and toe in.

someone correct me if im wrong.

You're correct, without an alignment after the T-bar adjustment the front tires will wear very quickly. This may be a good thing if you are looking for an excuse to upgrade from the factory tires as soon as possible!

Default Got the shocks today...will install in the morning.

I will try and take some photos as I go. I will give an update tomorrow evening. I will be doing it in the driveway also. I have the ratcheting wrenches and a good set of vice-grips so maybe i can do it......we will see.
