Default It's official: OnStar is desperate for customers

When I first got my H3, I got the 3 month OnStar trial. They also gave me 60 free calling minutes.

Well, I like OnStar, but I had no intention of keeping it as they would have charged my dad's credit card...

So, a few days ago I called to cancel my trial because they would have started billing tomorrow. I knew that they would be desperate to keep me, so I thought I'd try a little white lie...

I said that I was cancelling because I had been in Florida for the last two months and didn't have time to really try OnStar (a total lie!). The girl, without any hesitation at all, very nicely said that she will give me an additional two months free to continue trying OnStar.

She also said that once my trial is over, they will reduce the monthly bill from $24/month to $18/month.

Pretty sweet deal!

So call now to "cancel" if you're on the trial!

I was able to get a 90 day trial and free minutes without giving them my credit card(I don't like to give out my card unless I'm getting something). My trial is expiring on 4/18, so we'll see what happens. I really haven't even used it! So I'm not planning on getting it, they'd have to really make the deal sweet!
Perhaps if they keep customers(even trial customers), they'll get some sort of bailout!

Whether or not you want OnStar, be aware that they will deal a lot lower than $16.95. On my last renewal, they gave me $149 for 14 months plus 100 minutes of voice and rolled over my existing voice minutes. Way I do arithmetic, that about $10.65 per month. Now if you don't find any value in OnStar, then that's still $10.65 too much. Of course last year when I attempted to modify my leg with a chainsaw, it turned out pretty handy in coordinating with 911 services - so I'll probably renew.

I actually like having Onstar. I have used it a few times since I got my truck and I find it has a purpose. I think its one of those things that you don't miss until you need it. bflank's story is a perfect example.

Here in Canada we pay $39/month for the full deal (directions and everything). That is roughly $1.28 per day. I don't think that is hard to come up with. I mean we drive $40K vehicles, so I cut out one coffee per day if I have to, big deal. It costs you guys in the US 50cents a day.

I get tired of people bitching about loosing jobs and the state of the economy when no one supports anything. First XM radio and now Onstar. Two things I actually enjoy.

end rant....

Was that for the base plan or the "Directions and Connections" plan?

Thanks!

I have my onstar hooked up with Verizon Wireless on my family plan, it is perfect for 9 bucks a month.

That was for the base plan only. I don't really need the "Directions and Connections", so didn't try to dicker.

We kept the onstar for the JUST IN CASE...Our luck, we would be in no mans land with no cell phone signal and need help with something. I like having the security of them being there...even if it does cost a hundred bucks a year or so.

The whole Onstar thing is a sense of security, but remember that the OnStar is just a cell phone connection through Verizon, and Verizon has dead spots too.
