Ipod Hook-up
I've pulled the silver dash plate of mine several times for different things. The easy waay to do it is to stick your right middle and ring fingers into the power outlets on the lower left side. Pull out slowly and work your way up the sides intil it comes off. There are plugs on the back that connect to various buttons on the face plate. Simply disconnect each one and remove the face plate. Then remove the 4 bolts (2 on each side) holding the head unit in and slide the head unit out. On my 2006 H3 the XM box can be accessed once the head unit is out. On the 06 H3 you can look to the right side (behind the glove box)of where you just removed the head unit and you should see the wiring harness plug. I don't know if it's different for the 2007 but that's how it is for the 2006. I installed the USA SPEC PA-11gm iPod adaptor on my Hummer myself and it took about an hour.

How the hell did you get your hand in there to disconnect the harness from the XM receiver? I was attempting to install the USA-SPEC adapter yesterday, but ran out of time and gave up out of frustration at not being able to remove the harness. On top of that, I wasn't even sure if it was the correct plug. I do recall from past posts that the XM unit is behind the glove box. If it is the harness that I believe it is, how did you get it to release? There seems to be a blue locking clip on the harness from what I could see. I just couldn't figure out how to make it release. Any help would be appreciated. The last thing I want to do is inadvertently mess with something associated with the passenger airbag.

I agree.[sm=signs007.gif] I thought the black thing behind the glove box was the airbag also. I didn't want to touch it. Does anyone know for surewhere the xm is and the easiest way to access the plugs?
If memory seves me I did remove the glove box. The blue clip is a retainer clip...just slide it back and then the harness should slide off. It's been a while since I've done this so I'm going off of memory. I was trying to describe where the XM harness was and the only way I could give you an idea is to tell you to look to the right after you remove the head unit. To remove the plug I think the glove box has to come off, but it's easy enough to remove. I know I posted instructions somewhere on this forum about 10 months ago when I did the install.
If you have the USA Spec iPod adaptor and you are splicing the XM wire here's what you need to do:
Ok....If you have the glove box apart there's a black plastic piece that I believe has two clips. Pull the black plastic piece down and you should see the XM box. The cable harness is on the left side of the box (closest to the radio). You should be able to disconnect the harness from underneath where the glove box was. Then you should be able to reach the XM wiring harness from the hole where the radio is. There was a plastic tie down anchoring the wiring harness to a piece of metal just behind where the radio is....I removed it completely which made the wiring harness much easier to get too. Now you need to peal back the electrical tape that's wrapped around the wires. I believe the wire that needs to be spliced is the purple one (but make sure b4 you do). You will want to cut it as far away from the XM box as you can, so you have enough play in it. Using electrical tape, tape up the end that it not being spliced. I then rewrapped the harness (except for the wire being spliced) with electrical tape and connected it back to the XM box. The interesting part is going to be where you end up placing the box. Mine fit snuggly behind a bar on the right side behind the radio. It was a tight fit, but it worked. Good luck and let me know how it works out for you.
