shouldn't we get fewer miles per gallon when using the air-conditioner and driving 70-75 mph?

There has been studies to some extent, that driving 60-70 MPH with the windows open will burn as much fuel as with the A/C on...I guess if you had the windows down and the A/C on you'd get even less MPG..Just a hunch though

I'm thinking that the people getting up near 20 mpg don't drive very fast. on highway I never get below 70, normally stay around 75-80, if your gonna go less than 70 on a highway in NJ...good luck to ya and I'm sure I'll be flippin you off one of these days

ImportKiller (I don't know your real name yet because I'm dense like that):

Do you have ANY mods on your H3, like Air Intake, Exhaust, etc? Is everything stock?

my job is 3 miles from my house so probably i am not sensitive to mpg, i just think some folks are getting low mpg because OF (normal) FAST, SUMMER driving.

plus gas prices are down.....i went from less than a quarter tank to full for only $38.00

I filled up yesterday (2.79 a gallon for 87!) and averaged 13.55 mpg, but I'm sure that it didn't help the cause that I was dicking around in 4LO and did a bit of "froadin" as on of my buddies likes to call it.. I'm going to be taking a few long highway trips this weekend for the first time since I've had my car, and I'll post up what I get - I'll try to drive normally, but I should also have my 295/75/16's put on by then

real name is Mike, thats why you were confused in that thread last week where dilo was talking to me and you thought he was talking to you but had no clue what he meant

as far as my h3, it is bone stock right now. I have ordered an intake, and exhaust and have new 17" rims and 35" tires but haven't installed anything until this is looked at. I don't want the dealer to have any "excuses" when I bring it in.

as far as the mileage I do not think mine is strictly because of driving habits, to a point sure but not down to 10 mpg. Heres why I sy that.

Last week I left my boat at a lakeside marina to get the motors lower unit lube changed. I went last night to pick it up. It was 70 miles each way, I filled the tank before I got on the highway and drove the entire 70 miles (truck only...empty) at 75-80 mph. Stopped at the gas station next to the marina and filled up again, went 69.7 miles and used 6.5 gallons of gas for 10.7mpg. I hooked up the boat (26' total length tandem axle trailer near 3800 pounds) and drove back home the same exact route. Kept speed around 70-75, dipping below 65 on a few steep hills. Stopped at the gas station I stopped at on the way up to the marina and filled up. went 70.3 miles and took 7.5 gallons of gas to fill. thats 9.3 mpg. I have trailered this boat with a few different trucks and except for my dually always saw more than a 2 mpg drop off compared to the truck empty. Either the h3 is an amazingly efficiant towing machine or my fuel curve is messed up big time.

I don't care what anybody says (no disrespect to anybody) but you definitely have a problem. There is no way in hell you should be getting that low of mileage with everyday driving and you are driving a vehicle that is completely stock. Something is obviously wrong. You could have a misfunctioning oxygen sensor or something causing your mixture to go haywire. Maybe you have a blown fuse to one of the engine components and don't know it. Those people better fix it. Here I go getting upset again for you ;-)

have you tried resetting your ECU? I'm not sure if it would be any different for the H3, but its usually done by just disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery and holding down the brake so that the brake lights drain any residual charge in the system... it might not do anything, but if the dealer doesn't want to do a thing to your truck, it might be worth a try?

I have the same problem as importkiller (Mike). I just took my H3 to the dealer this morning. We will have to see if they find anything.

Of course they tried to give me the run around... that 10-12MPG is acceptable in the city. They also said that the engine ins't even broken in until 5000 miles.

Only after being very insistant did they agree to even look at the problem.
