That's what my wife wants, literally. Too bad there is a rediculous rule in my new home development that you can't park your own car in your driveway for more then 48 hours.

that is a rediculous rule.... I dont think I could ever live in a community that tries to enforce any kind of rules on you...

 

what are they going to do? put a boot on your car?

in my neighborhood, we're not supposed to be able to have our garage doors open for more than 2 hours, and up until 4 years ago all roofs needed to be either cedar or slate.
If the car is in good shape and actually does drive itself, I'm sure you're fine. They put rules like that in there so that people can't just go and buy an old camaro frame and try to make it into a fully restored 69 SS in their driveway, because thats pretty ugly to most neighbors. Basically, unless you have ****** for neighbors, I would imagine that you would be fine... unless Hitler himself moved in down the street.

 

no way in hell I could move into a community that told me how to live! I'd shoot someone within a year. If I pay my taxes and want to restore a car in my driveway I should have every right to damnit!! My neighbor don't like it...F him too!!!

I agree. It is the only rule that is rediculous to me, BUT, it prevents people from putting leaky old cars in their driveways that leak chemicals kids can get near. I think that's why they did it. Believe me, there are other new communities going up around this area that are worse. MANY of them don't even let you paint your house other then the original color, and will not allow you to put a fence up. That is why they are so damn cheap. It's so rediculous. Luckily where my house is being built, it's almost 1000 homes and they don't have rediculous rules, other then the one I posted.

 

a guy in my fishing club moved into one of those development community things that had rules. The president of the housing commitee was his next door neighbor and after a year was hammering my friend with all these violations. He got fined for having his bass boat parked in his driveway, so my friend parked it on his front lawn...no rule about that! Then he got fined for that because it was an eye sore.If you don't know bass boats are very expensive...mine cost me around $52,000 and his was similiar to mine. So you can imagine how pissed my buddy was about this douche calling his boat an eye sore. He fixed the situation by filling up a super soaker water gun with round up and spraying I love c*ck on the guys front lawn in nice big letters. He hasn't been fined since

I have a personal friend who is an attorney and also has been the president of his condo association for 11 years since it was started. I asked him why I have to pay assesments on my own land and my own home. He said these new developments/communities that are going up these days operate on the same principals and rules as a condominium because technically you are agreeing to join an association regardless of what kind of property it is. Unfortunately he said that because of the rules and regulations that govern these, since the officials are elected by the community members, you automatically assume the responsibility of whatever rules are set in place or developed by that elected board. If you don't agree with how things are going, the only way to legally change them is by electing new officials.

The very unfortunate thing about this is you can have a elected board of people who decide to create rules and regulations based on their own personal bias's and preferences, and if you don't follow those rules, they can legally fine you and there isn't a damn thing you can do about it. I was in shock when I heard that. There is a difference between bending or breaking a rule that one person believes should be law, and breaking a city, county or state law where something is illegal.

Our development is the biggest in the state (unknown to me until I signed the papers). It consists of 989 homes. The development will be completed in the next year or two, and soon after that, they builder will turn over the association to the people. I intend of running for a seat on that board. I have two things against me though: 1 is I'm probably going to be the youngest person on it, and 2 I drive a bright red H3 that everybody will probably know by then, so if they get ticked off at me for something, they may attack my H3.

The good news is the main reason I want on the board is because I know even though I don't agree with people on certain things, I would run the law of the land based on what everybody wants, not what I want. Another thing I'm also worried about is the community being segregated. Unfotuntely to my wife and I's shock (I am white and she is hispanic) It looks to be segregated, which I'm still trying to figure out WHY and HOW that happened. i happen to be getting my house built in one of the areas that is a mix of all cultures and backgrounds and that is what I prefer, but, to each his own I dont need a bunch of tree huggers judging me for my H3. I'd rather have the guy next door who has a new '06 Vette and the other guy across the street who has the sweetest looking bel-air I have ever scene (even though I think about 12 people live in that house). Since most of our friends are of every race color and financial walk of life you can think of, we should fit in well there It looks like I may have some new gear head friends!
