Default I want an H3...

Hello, my wife and I are thinking of trading in our 2006 Chevy Colorado CrewCab Z71 4x4 for an H3. Since it is built on the same platform andshares an engine, the only reason I want an H3 is the size (smaller than the Colorado), better off road capability, and a nicer interior. So, what are some things you think I should consider when looking at an H3? Is it worth getting the "Adventure Package"? Does the base H3 have an automatic locking rear like my Colorado? The only difference I see with the "Adventure Package" is the electronic locking rear and 33" tires. Finally, I'm looking to do the trade/purchase around the 4th of July. How much do you think dealers will negotiate on the H3? Thanks guys!

I think they will negotiate pretty well on the H3 but I don't know how they will treat you on the trade in. They do share some parts but the H3 is significantly different. If you are going to off road I would get the Adventure package. It has the front and rear locking transfer case.

Sorry, bouncing back and forth between a couple of forums. Didn't exactly finish that thought. Besides the four wheel high and low lock T-casecapability the Alpha also has the locking rear differential.

I may be mistaken but I think your still bouncing back and forth 3hummers but I'm pretty sure the 3's don't have a locking front...yet.

Actually I stand corrected. I did not know you could get a locking rear diff on a non-Alpha H3 and I just found out that you can.

The platforms are similar, but the H3 is beefed up compared to the Colorado. Boxed frame, 1/2 ton running gear, etc. Also, the selectable locker is MUCH better than the auto-locker in the pickups.

If you can wait a couple more months though, you should check out the 2009 models. The new Alpha will have a front locker and the new H3T should be coming out (also an Alpha with F/R lockers).

I'll be getting an 09 Alpha. Does anyone know when they hit the dealers?

A lot of people get the impression that the H3 and the colorado is exactly the same, but don't be mistaken...they are completely different (I get it all the time). In fact there is an H3 for sale in the newspaper where I live and it says GMC H3 for sale [:@]..I want to call that person up and set the record straight. The H3 feels a lot stiffer on the road and feels more aggressive than the Colorado. Did you drive an H3 yet? If not, give it a try you will love it.

As far as dealers go, a lot look to be making deals on 08's with base or adventure packages...not Alphas too much. It depends on how much you want to pay a month. If you can afford it, go for the Alpha and get the looks, the power and the aggressiveness. I went with the base as that was as much as I could afford it, but still love it. It has enough power for everyday driving and still has awesome off-road power..Do some minor mods and gain even more off-road capability.

Good luck!
