I just bought a 2001 hardtop wagon H1 yesterday this has always been a dream of mine and yesterday it came realty. Then it became a nightmare. My H1 will start and run fora while then just shut down with no warning and it will start right away or not start for a half hour or so. I have owned many diesel vehicles before and It seems like a fuel problem. I would appreciate any input.. Have you expeirienced something like this yourself?? Please let me know.

Sounds like it could be a pmd issue. Read about it here and see if the symptoms sound familiar:

my truck quit on me recently and I did the "jedi water trick" to start it (poured water on the injection pump, on which the pmd is mounted). If this is indeed the problem, it's a common one as well as an inexpensive/relatively easy one to fix. I bought a relocation kit from Dave at Bluehummer.com (I don't know if it's Chuck's or Peter Hipson's kit) and will put it on in Jan.

Did you steam clean or used a high pressure cleaner to clean your engine before driving it, I had a similar problem after steam cleaning the engine, next day everything fine, strange.

Wow thanks for all your guys help. That linked looked oh so familar my H1 already has that relocation kit except it is not heatsinked. As for the water problem that is a possibiltity since they detailed it before I picked it up. So is there updated versions of that pmd box with newer versions of the product that are better. The good news is Hertz in Bend ore where I bought it are going to fix it and pay for the repairs. Please though keep the ideas coming in since knowledge is power and I am very interested in learning about my new vehicle I got a great deal on it so I am still happy 46,500.00 and it only has 50k on it I looked it up and that is under wholesale price. Cant wait for it to be road ready I plan on driving it everyday.

 

I have seen H2 and H3 trucks for rent at Hertz but not an H1. Let us know what they decide the issue is. Nice truck and welcome to the forum.

 

It wasnt a rental the GM of the lot picked it up at a auction for himself to drive as a Demo. This Hertz lot is huge they have over 3400 cars on the lot and they are not all rentals.

 

Yeah, sounds like PMD issue to me.

 

One other question what is the normal operating temp on a h1 with 6.5 diesel mine was running at 3/4 hot on the gauge is that normal??

 

Not sure what 3/4 hot is. My 97 wagon runs at 190 degrees.
