I have been contemplating a roof rack for a while. I need it for work to put tools and what not on the roof and out of the interior of my vehicle (Yes I work out of my H3).

I am also the type that hates to spend money on worthless things just because of the name brand. If it is truely better for some reason then I will gladly pay.

Some H3 racks cost $200 and the GOBI cost $1500 (7 times more)

Is it really worth it to get a GOBI rack or is it just paying $ for a name brand?

 

GH - I bought a bunch of roof gear for my Land Rovers and Jeeps in the past - both brand name and non-brand name... I have had some real bad luck with the non-name brand stuff with it rusting, breaking, chipping etc...

I too use my H3 as an off-road vehicle...and store a bunch of stuff up top...

I am going Gobi, because I used their stuff on the 04 LR I have now and it has held up quite well during the beating it has taken on the beach (salt and crap)

Just my preference...

I am in the same boat as you. I have been looking a roof racks and I hear GOBI is the **** but I am an E5 in the Air Force and thats just less then 1 month pay for me.... the "wife acceptance factor is zero on that". I posted a message about Valley in th H3 forum hopefully someone else bought one and can let me know what they think about it.
