Default I am buying a H3 Tomorrow and need some help.

Nice Form you guys got here I am excited to be a Hummer owner. I an having trouble picking between a 06 or a 08 luxury. I know the 06 has a 3.5 and the 08 has a 3.7 but what I would like to know is one more reliable than the other? the 06 has 83000 miles and the 08 has 104000.The 06 has navigation with a eclipse avn 30D which I hear is hard to get a ipod connection and the 08 has a factory basic cd player. Any advice would be great I am having a hard time deciding myself.

congrats im sure the one you pick you will fall in love with.
Just a bit of advice put it on a obd2.abs.srs scanner before you purchase.
also if possible get a warranty. Got to watch out for some of these used car dealers.

Get 08 if You want because 3.7 engine is much more better compare to 3.5 of H3 2006.

I am buying the 2006 I think it is from a personel owner the guy is 60 something years old and seems pretty trust worthy but I guess you never know. There is no check engine lights on would this scanner show something was wrong if the check engine light is off? Would I have to go to a shop or would a autoparts store like Auto Zone have one of these scanners?

Thanks for your help.

Is there really that much difference between the 3.5 and 3.7 the specs show the 3.5 at 220 and the 3.7 at 242. I drove both and didn't notice a difference but I didn't drive either one that hard. The 06 has 83000 miles for $13,000 and now I found a 09 with 100,700 miles on it at $14,900 The prices have already been negotiated. The 09 doesn't have a sunroof and the 06 does but the 09 has leather. I just need to pick one.

Being that you are going to buy from a private seller you will have no warranty definitely bring it to a trusted garage run a compression test check front end for wheel play (bearings. tie rods, etc.) pressure test radiator run it in 4hi & 4low have them go right through it scan it.You may pay a little money now but you will save thousands later also can negotiate price with seller. If buying from a car dealership do not buy AS IS get a warranty.

Get the newest you can afford, definitely the '07+. '06 has less HP and some known engine issues. There are other little things like '09+, at least some models, can connect your phone via bluetooth. If you get an Adventure package, '09+ have front lockers as well as rear. At some point in '07 they moved the power window controls farther up (MUCH easier to reach). I'm sure there are other little things they changed year to year.

If you can swing it, and find one, I'd highly suggest going with an Alpha for the V8. The I5 is adequate, but if I ever go back to an H3 an Alpha model will be a requirement.

Congrats!

Just an FYI. A Check Engine Light says hey look at me, something is up. Basically says scan me for a code. If the condition is intermittent the light may go off (like when you are test driving it) but the code will be stored until erased with a scanner. So yes, a scanner can read stored codes regardless of what the CEL is doing.
