So the question I have is: who pays for the damage? If it was a dealer sponsored event, the vehicle probably wouldn't have been there in the first place if it wasn't for the invintation, and if there was a spotter invloved, the spotter was probably a dealer employee. That would put the liability on the dealer, wouldn't it? I know ultimately it comes down to the driver of the vehicle, but it is an interesting question none the less.

Ok, I was looking at the pic of the fenderless h3 and had a thought...... I wonder if it would be possible to somehow make a housing to fit a filter under the air vent cover, then connect a stainless pipe from under the air vent (which would be the new filter box) to the hole in the inner fender (where the stock air box draws from now). Then remove the stock air box and run another stainless pipe from the pipe in the fender hole directly to where the stock pipe connects now. It would be the ultimate stealth snorkel system. It Would draw in cold air from totally outside the engine compartment. Hmm......I should patent that idea and make a killing!! Whacha thick...would be a pretty interesting project.

Great Idear...Maybe some PVC pipe or some flex type tubing to snorkel it up to the vent inlet..But that is a great idea really!

i don't know of a sponsored event that doesn't require participants to sign a waiver releasing the organizers from liability for damage. it's thinking like this that has more and more dealers backing out of sponsorships, they can't afford the insurance. if i wreck my truck on a run, i went in with the option of not participating. unless someone puts a gun to my head to make me drive, it's always going to be my fault if i hit an inanimate object or snap any part that's supposed to be in one piece. costs for organized events would be far cheaper if the organizers weren't forced to carry additional liability insurance. i have insurance, to protect both myself, and whoever the hell gets in my way while i'm talking on the phone, eating a big mac and drinking a beer while reading the paper.

now that was funny.

however, you'd need to provide a really good seal, and i don't think the air intake is the limiting factor for fording depth.
