He started out like you not knowing much. BUT HE has listened, learned and soaked in all of the experiences he can to become a better mechanic, wheeler and person.
He should be an insparation to you. Not another example of your wack-a-doodle attitude.
I find it blasphemous you even mentioned him or his rig in your tantrum.

I have an 08 H3 Alpha. It has been my most problem free vehicle I have ever owned. That doesn't mean 0 problems, just the best. Way better than my ex Toyota 4 runner.
But, it's not just about that. Sure, I love how problem free my Alpha is, but there also isn't anything like it. The ads and other auto makers would like to us to think that being in a vehicle class means they are all alike. Hardly!
A good friend of mine has an FJ and he likes it, but he also calls it the plastic fantastic. His big like is that it is easy to wash after taking the family to the beach and, guess what, he's jealous as hell of my Aplha.
Another friend with a jeep wrangler is adding up the costs to modify his jeep to get it up to speed with a stock Alpha. Again, jealous as hell of my Alpha.
So, the bottom line is, it's about the package and what you like. If you don't really care what Hummer brings to the table, then I suppose the other modes will look better to you and any problems you have with your Hummer(if any) will seem that much worse.
I got my Alpha because it reminded me of some of the classic 4x4s that people wanted to keep forever and not replace after the loan was paid off. I have way exceeded my expectation and this is one Alpha that you will never see listed for sales and will have to pry out of my dead hands.

I'll add my .02 cents... I had a '97 4Runner that was the epitome of reliability. Gave me 17 years of dependable transport, took us to some of the most out of the way, off the beaten path ice climbs in all of New Hampshire and was rock solid almost up to the end of her 342,000 miles. Nobody has to tell me how awesome Toyota trucks are built... I lived it and will attest to that fact. However, it was not luck of the draw, or any other random set of circumstances which led to this long life. It was service... As a mechanical engineer, I am fully aware of the importance of keeping up with the maintenance schedules of ALL machines. If you do this one simple thing, any well designed machine will be reliable... ignore it and it won't. It's that simple.
While I loved my 4Runner, this H3 is in a different league altogether. I have never driven "anything" which makes me feel like this does, and the only word that comes to mind when I am behind the wheel is "SOLID". While I harbor no illusions about getting anywhere near the same number of miles out of the H3 that I did out of the 4Runner, I am nonetheless looking forward to years of reliable service.

there's a lady down the st from me that has an 06 and it has 279k on it a couple of months ago and i asked how it's doing, she said great, had to replace all the sway bar bushings, water pump and starter and that's all she had done.. it still looks just as good as the day she got it, every friday she has it cleaned up and has always has the garage change all the fluids like it should be. I asked if it burned any oil and she said not a drop. I believe if you take care of something that it will last a lot longer. I asked what she'd do when it was worn out, she laughed and said, well i've got a 09 alpha with no miles on it sitting in the basement waiting if that day comes. She's also got a jeep wranger and i asked why she didn't drive it more often? she laughed again and asked if i had ever drove or rode in a jeep? told her i had and she said then you know why i want my H3 over a jeep then.

17 years and 342 thousand miles? How many vehicles, regardless of what they are, or how well they are taken care of, do you see lasting that long? It's not a lot... it is the exception, not the rule. And I am fine with that. I have no idea how many miles I'll get out of the H3, but it is VERY well built, and I am going to maintain it to same degree that I did my 4Runner and whatever happens, happens.
Prophet,
Guess my outlook on vehicle longevity is skewed? My dad's 1964 1/2 notchback mustang had a stock 289 for the first 20 years of its life without issues (of course my dad tinkered with it) and his 1996 Chevy Tahoe with 200k is still running to this day. When I sold my 1992 Toyota Camry with 150k was running but drinking oil. my brothers 1994 Ford ranger with 200k seemed unstoppable and ended up selling it for a f150 king ranch. I've seen cars last a long time in my family. It's sad people have such low expectations. I understand over a quarter million miles is rare but cars costing 30~60k shouldn't be trashed after 10yrs 100k miles.

Yes, I have been at the point not understanding how GM could get away with so many parts created to fail from the A/C to the transmission case to the plastic clips in the rear and on the seat belts.
Since January 2014, and currently with 48K miles on the odo, it has cost me over $5K for things like brake reservoir, new battery, new brakes (new ones put in 2013 and now 20 months later needs new ones), A/C blower, etc.
The H3 is so freaking fragile and constantly in the shop for one thing or another failing.
Warranty expired in April 2014 and today I am hit with costs exceeding $2K plus the constant cost of renting a vehicle.
So, no I am not a happy camper...
