Hummer H3 Ignition Key Chip/Transponder

I have an 08 H3 Alpha and when I bought it, it only came with one set of keys. I went to go get a copy made yesterday and the guy checked his book and told me that the key is chipped.

The key doesn't look like any kind of chipped key I've ever seen, it almost looks too small to be chipped. It looks just like a normal key with a small plastic cap. From what I think I've been able to gather the 08 and up is chipped, does anyone know if this is true?

Before I go and buy a chipped blank online and wait for shipping I'm inclined to get a cheap one cut for like $2 and try that, will it mess anything up?

Interesting. The guy at the hardware store last night had a book that says the 08's and up have a chip in them. I'll just go back and have him cut one and try it.

I have had an 06 and 08 and now a 10. No chips. My local key shops books also said it was chipped and so did my local Chevy dealer. But I assure you, they are not chipped.

Good enough for me! I'm going to go have two made as soon as I leave work in about 30 mins.

H3 Keys

Thanks to all for letting all of us know what's up with the Key "Issue"

I have also "Stared" at my key and wondered if there was a "Chip" inside or not

This is why I love this forum --- Good solid information most of the time

I have an 07 and now will just get a cheap key cut at the Depot

Thanks again for the info :D

I went and got three keys cut after work, all three start and drive my truck no problem. Stealerships trying to say you need a chipped key, kiss my ass.

Total cost: $5.99

H3 Keys - Where to get them?

On the subject of these non-chipped keys, where do I get them? My home depot and lowes don't have the blanks around here. Do hardware stores normally have them? I know about getting them on-line, but I would really like to get them locally if I can.
Thanks in advance!
Craig :D
