Default Howstuffworks - Hummer 4WD Tutorial

Just came across this and thought I'd share. Trying to figure out noise in front end and as a noob was trying to understand difference between CV joint, half shafts, Transfer and Diff, etc. I found this very informative to include pictures! Even highlights the different 4WD, traction control and locker modes. Figured it would be a good post up in general for the newer owners.

Hopefully it's pretty accurate. HowStuffWorks "The Four-wheel Drive Hummer"

Oops, should be http://auto.howstuffworks.com/four-wheel-drive.htm. Starts generic and gets to Hummer specific.

Interesting,

But, how close is the H3 4x4 system related to the H1?
They claim the H1 is probably the best in the world.
What does this say about the H3?

Thank you

I moved your thread to General Hummer Talk, because it is interesting info, but doesn't relate specifically to the H3. I guess people could say put it in the H1 section, but this is a good place for everybody to check it out.

I left a 10 day redirect from the H3 section.

Kudos on the find.

an important point,
But, how close is the H3 4x4 system related to the H1?
h3,like h1 has a diff in the transfer case so both driveshafts can move at different speeds when turning on dry roads.

the point;

the front/rear diffs are either open or lockers but not any of the others mentioned.
