How to replace Steering Bolt???
Ok, I have decided to purchase a new steering bolt and attempt to install a straight bolt, in the way it belongs. I don't have the time to go back down there, and deal with those turkeys.
I don't have the part yet, but I would like to know if there is anything that I need to be aware of before attempting it. Do I need to secure the steering shaft/knuckle before removing the bolt? Is it under pressure? Or will this be a ten minute job?
I've attached a pic so that you could see what one I'm talking about.....

should be an easy fix...except it loks like the entire bracket is bent and will need to be straightened. Did you get the right grade bolt? Rigging it with too soft a bolt could be disasturous. The steering shaft isn't under pressure but you may want to try and strap the steering wheel dow so it doesn't turn on ya. Never workded on the h3 steering but some trucks it can rotate on yo and be a PITA if you don't strap it down.
I agree IK, there is no pressure andit looks bent. Getting the right grade bolt is important to soft and it will bend again, to hard and something else will give way. Make sure you mark your shaft wit regard to the bracket and strap down the steering wheel to restrict movement because if you don't mark it and you have movement your steering will be off/crooked. Also check the Universal joint, it looks like a sealed unit. Here is what I found on the GM parts site. The part lists for $260.00. The Bolt would be cheaper.

What a mess! Now I either have to do this myself or find someone else to replace the part and get it right.....seeing that I have only one Hummer dealer...this is ridiculous!
All you have to do is worry about Item # 23, (22 & 21 too) according to the GM parts site it's a 260 dollar part, I would take it to the dealer have it fixed/replaced and don't forget to have them show you the bad parts so you know they fixed it.
