How long before your 1st "time to change the oil" warning?
I was reading the manual and it said to wait until the DIC says to change the oil which may be up to a "year". I'm assuming the oil is pure synthetic right? How long have most people gone before their 1st warning for an oil change?
Saw that too, I went ahead and changed mine at 3500 mi. Been keeping an eye on the Onstar reports also and now at 9000mi it says that I still have 45% oil life left. I'm running full synthetic, but no, they don't come that way.
Don't really know how much to trust all of those. Will probably go ahead and change again in a week or two.

I would not wait past the 3500 mile mark for the first oil change no matter what the DIC says. After that I would be a little more aggressive than the DIC on when to change.
7200 miles changed it last weekend. It looked slightly used. The old change your oil every 3000 miles is something that the people that sell oil came up with years ago. Oil has changed and engines have changed. 7200 miles doesn’t seem that bad to me, but I did start to get a little antsy as I neared 7000.
Mine has been prompting me to change the oil right about every 10,000 miles. I'm running synthetic and usually change it between 5,000-7,500 depending on the weather and my schedule.

The system is designed or programmed to5k to 15k on your oil. If I think what I think it is on how it does this, we had this type of monitor when I was in the Marines in Okinawa years ago. You ran a probe down the dip stick tube and the hand held device would analyze the oil and tell you if it needed changing. I believe it monitors metal, sulfur, water and even fuelcontent in the oil. But I bet the one in the H3only does metal (I'm guessing), I would send your oil to an oil analysis program if you really want to know about your oil.

For the first year that I had the On Star email reports, I changed my oil based on there recommendations and have not had any problem, it was about 9000 miles, also what more could you ask for if you did run into a problem, you have written Prof from them.
