Default Hlep on XM & OnStar Problem

I started my H3 and found that the XM radio was not receiving a signal and that I could not change the XM channel. Regular radio bands are OK but both XM bands are stuck on the single channel. Pressing the phone or OnStar buttons causes the display to flash "Phone" and then go back to the previous display - either working radio station or non-working XM channel but never hear any OnStar prompts.

I did not see anything similar to this in my forum search.

I am thinking that either I have a blown fuse, a dead component, or a broken harness wire. Anyone have any ideas where I might start troubleshooting?

Yes, but even if that was the issue it would be unlikely for both OnStar and XM to decide to go south at the same time.

On the way home tonight both XM & OnStar came back to life as if nothing was ever wrong. The clock was reset but none of the radio preset were cleared. OK, now waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I've had this happen a few times. Check your positive and negative cables.
Also check the connectors at the back of the radio, Onstar and the XM unit. Eventually I made sure all were tight and never had the issue happen again.

I had my XM go out on me for a couple days. I ended up calling XM and they resent the signal. The next day it started working on the way home from work.

Tainter is correct about the connectors on the back of the head unit, they can be problematic.
Battery cables again are a concern too and easy to check

Thanks for the information. I will spend some time checking the connectors on the radio and the battery connections.

Just to chime in, I was driving home from work yesterday and my XM went out again. I can change the channels but I get dead air. Guess I'll have to have XM resend the signal, that seemed to work last time.

turns out it was my Ipod adapter I had plugged into the XM unit. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it works as normal.
