HID questions. New member.
Hi folks,
I just picked up an '06 H3 and miss the stock HID's I had in my previous car.
I have been googling for a little, and I did a search on this page but it only has raised more questions.
Just curious, where could I buy HID's with the proper "dome" housing, without spending $1000.
And are there any other things I should be worried about, ie, installation issues, hi beam low beam issues, certain specs.
Thanks guys!!
Joe

are you wanting projector headlights, hid, or both? You can put hid kits in your factory housing for about 70 bucks and still have functioning hi/low beams. If you're wanting projector lights be prepared to fork out a grand for the Starr kit. people have opened the housing up and installed their own projector housings inside but it is a lot of work and time to make it look right
I own the Starr system as many on this forum know.
They are as Staggs correctly states, not cheap, but you can get them for slightly less
than $1000.00. Not much less, but less.
Staggs is also correct about the other alternatives. The baking open of the stock headlight housings and installing a
projector HID system is what TRS company sells, but it has a few problems that are not easy to solve.
It sounds like you know the advantages of projector HID's from your last car you own.
It all comes down to what you want to spend and how much work you're willing to do.
Update
If you are interested, STARR is selling their HID system for $799.00
That's twenty percent less than a grand.
Good Luck

BTW, WTF convinced me to buy them over breaking open my old ones... happy he did.
But you are right about that price. I bought my mine back in late 07 and I too spent more.
I am like CARdiac and I drive at night and they are fantastic and no problems in five years.
I hope both you guys have the same good luck
Thanks for all the responses. As much as I want the STARR kit, I have a couple guys convincing me to go with the basic kit first and see if I like it. I'll keep you posted if I decide to go STARR.
Side note:
Anyone having issues with the exterior molding on the A pillar? Mines popping off. Someone mention a possible recall to me but gm denies it. Any thoughts?
