Default Hey guys, I need to change my tire. Any how to?

Hello all,

New to this forum... I bought some military surplus tires 37 inch 16.5 rim MTR's...

I need to mount them. A local shop said they would do it, but I wanna make sure they screw nothing up...

I took all my CTIS covers off
Popped the disconnect tab

And from what I was told, I have to remove the disconnect fitting... There are three places where I can take a wrench to... I was told (based on this diagram) that I have to take the entire fitting off that screws into the wheel.

When I do that (not all the way of course), I hear air coming out... so I quickly tighten it back up... Is that normal? Does that shop have to do that before they can remove the wheel?

Please let me know!

Thanks

It is normal. Can't remember but it is either a 3/4 or 7/8". After that it is like removing any other wheel. Do you have one piece or two piece wheels? Also if you have run flats inside, as most do, many tire shops are not equipped to remove, reinstall and/ or balance those wheels. Make sure they know what that are getting into.

Thanks! Just wanted to make sure it was normal for air to release...

I have no clue if it is a one piece or two piece wheel... Is there any easy way to check?

Should I post a picture here? It is a 1997 Hummer H1

I also have NO CLUE if I have run flats inside....

Now you're scaring me

I assume there is no way to check that unless the wheel is off... bummer..

Post a picture and we can tell you if it is a one piece or two piece.( are there a set of bolts that are not asociated with the lugs that hold the tire on the wheel? ) If the set up has runflats the tire/wheel combo will weigh about 165#s. If they have been removed the tire/wheel combo will weigh considerably less.

Looks like a one piece rim but you likely still have run flats. How much does one weigh?

Those are the same kind of tires I had. If there is a run flat inside the local shop should be able to get the run flat off with regular tools. More than likely you have a two piece run flat inside, and the local tire shop will not be able to put them back in your new tire. Installation of the 2 piece run flat requires a specialized tool that is ungodly overpriced. Have you found tires yet? Those are 16.5 rims and tires are something else the local tire store will not have. Look on ebay.

@3hummers

I haven't had a chance to take the setup off and weigh, so I am not quite sure...

Is it worth it to do that though instead of getting to the tire shop only to find out they can't install my new tires?

@MattN

I already bought military surplus H1 Tires. Some Bridgestone MT/R's

I really hope they can install the run flat inside. If I even have run flats...

Is it really crucial to have them installed with my new tires?
