I bought mine - a 2004 H2 and discovered that the HVAC Actuators (2) of them did not work properly only upon getting a dead battery. To check that out turn the heater controls to see they go HOT and COLD and back again for a full function system. Check out that the MODE control - that diverts the air to your various vents - defrost/mid level/upper-lower work. And lastly recirculate which cuts in or out the outside air going into the cabin.
I did all the work myself but tearing out the dash was not fun the first time around!
Don't let price guide you...drive it and get the vibe...usually your gut feeling is right.

I would take some time and read through the H3 section to see what issues people have and check those items on the rigs you are looking at.

If you plan on some moderate OffRoad trips the Adventure package is something to look for.
Personally I would look at the best rig for the $ you have. Lowest miles and most recent year.

Check all the fluids. Check for leaks.

Radiators are a known H3 issue, the plastic tanks at the top and bottom of the aluminum cooling core can crack, or become loose where they are crimped to the cooling core, or the top can rub against the radiator bracket and or front support (any contact with the tank and the front is bad).

I just recently bought a 98 H1 wagon, but I was actually looking at wanting to buy a H3 too just to have as my daily driver. I've always loved HUMMER. I think the H3's (baby hummers as my son likes to call them) still have a good look to them.
