thats why it's illegal in NY to have a car/truck with any kind of push bar on the front....how bad is that?!?!?! It's either a law now or is going to be soon...complete BS!!!!

Any suggestions to better the front, jdrew?
I just like the ida of the winch hidden... for looks anyway .. but its probably easier if you had to do any repairs to have it out in the open.. As for ideas, i dont have a damn thing to offer.. my mind doesnt work that way..

I think what you have is great.. but i personally would rather have a hidden winch.. (especially since the wife cant see the front of the H3 as it is when she drives.. )

From a lot of muddin and winchin I can tell you the truly hidden winch set up really looks cool on the street but wait until you bury the front end. Continuously immersing the winch and solinoids is not good either. When the inevitable back lash of not being able to lay the cable back on the spool while winching occurs and wedges cable into itself youwill have to pull it out with another vehicle, if you have one.H20's set up on Bebe's has a removable access to the winch. The only one that would be practical I have seen. The open mount is a lot better if you really plan to use it and if you don't, what's the point of a $1000 bling ? Just get the mount and leave off the winch! You could have a piece of cable hanging out with a chrome hook.

Regarding the departure angles, the rear corners are the same as factory but directly behind it sits up a bit higher. I designed it with a 45 degree bend up so that if you do hit on a departure it will slide off rather than dig in which is what caused me to have to make this one in the first place. I appreciate the feedback everybody.

lets not make this into an anti any bling board like the other place. Personally I would rather put up with the occasional problems that a concealed winch may give you rather than drive aound town with a big ole ugly winch hanging off the front end. If this was strictly a trail rig then sure, whatever is more practical...but as most of us these on the road most of the time....I'd rather drive something that looks AND performs good. I've had concealed winches before and never had one bit of problem.....if you bury the front end to the point that the concealed winch is under, then the winch hanging off the front end will be buried too. Actually the exposed winch on the front end is more prone to trail damage than one in the bumper...I'd rather put up with the occasional mud clean out that having my $1500 winch getting banged around and wacked with tree's.

Ironman, nice job on the winch mount. That should hold up well. I just have one comment. Where does the fairlead mount? Most winches require a seperate mounting surface for the fairlead. You might want to consider a lip that bends up on the font of the mount in order to have a fairlead bolted on. just my 2 cents.
