I had my '08 H3 for almost a week and i occasionally get the vacuum/blower noise on startup as well...

Yep - Mine vacuums the road when cold too - only for about 30 seconds though ... I am just use to it, sounds like a v8 ?!^%#^

Every SUV i've had makes that noise at cold start up. But i got used to it. I thought CWS was describing some other kind of sound that i never heard.

The noise isbecause of varriable valve timing. It runs like that briefly at startup to heat up the cats.
