That is strange indeed. Are you 100% sure you have a Monsoon (I'm not saying you are wrong I'm just curious). From everything I researched you have 2 options for H3 sound:

1. Base w/a single disc cd player and base speakers (2 component and 2 coaxial speakers).
2. Premium w/a 6 disc cd player and the Monsoon system (2 component speakers, 2 coaxial speakers, and a sub w/digital amp).

Does anyone else have a Monsoon w/a single disc unit?

Even the manual describes the two options...

 

talking about OEM radios...... i believe it is pretty common that the black stuff comes off the radio ***** and buttons.
Is there a way to replace or to repair this as it looks pretty crappy...?

My 2007 H3 still does not show such problems.
I know that you can buy some aluminum covers for the bigger turning *****....
Rampart has a single CD player for about 80$...maybe cheaper than the alu *****.

 

Here is what I have for you guys to end this. This is what The options were:

UQ3 - is the basic configuration (non Monsoon) but came with or without XM and ONSTAR

UQA - is the Moonsoon and came with and without XM and ONSTAR

UQ3 - by 2007 there was only 1 radio and it was a single CD with a UBO RPO code

UQA - The last few years only 2 radio options UC6 (6 Disk) and UM8 (nav) plus there was a single disk radio US8. US8 went away around or at the begining of 2008 model.

If I'm reading your message correctly you are saying that 2009 - 2010 models have only 2 radio options UC6 (6 disc) and UM8 (nav). But I have a 2010 w/a single disc unit w/XM and OnStar. Is there anywhere I can check my codes? I'm more curious than anything.

The UQ3 is the base non monsoon radio single disk CD. The radio RPO code is UB0. This is What you have.
The UQA is the monsoon which you can have 2 different radios. The 6 disk CD UC6 or the navigation radio UM8.
The difference between UQ3 and UQA is wiring harnesses. Completely different.

 

On the numbers on the back of the radio i cant find out what type my radio is.
I have a H3 2006 with oem single disc.

If i understand correctly it is NOT possible to interchange/ upgrade the oem single disc with a 6cd of the same year as it has different wiring.
( with dealer re-code)
