H3 - New to me!
Hi everyone,
I picked up a 2006 H3 with the lux package a couple weeks ago and so far we love it. We traded in a 2011 Chevy Cruze which was getting 38 mpg for the Hummer.....I know the mpg, but the deal was too good to be true so we took the leap. We live in the Chicago land area so winter is always plentiful and this year I'm actually looking forward to the snow and in the spring I would like to check out Silver Beach dunes in Michigan. Anything I should now about the H3 before winter hits?

traded a 2011 huh? bought on mon trade on sat!! i was a ford man,had a turbo probe loved it. i keep saying a turbo 4 is a great idea for mileage+ a little zip!
so im on my 2nd h3 in 2 yrs! grabbed a new on b4 they ran out. you'll love it,but practice in snow, these are not great unless u get good tires. on stock rubber i got stuck on my own yard, twice! while practicing close to home.(i walked home and dug out the next day)
i stopped in 8-10 inches of wet heavy snow, then all 4 wheels just rotated in their pockets!!
i could have walked around it and watched!! going across a slope the big tires are like snoboards and it slid sideways and i could not climb it straight up.
so practice so u know what 2 expect, over confidence may get u a long walk home!!

Thanks for the heads up about the tires in the snow. While I don't have the useless OE tires (except the spare) I looked into how well the Nitto Terra Grapplers fare and they are rated pretty good. If I need new tires I'll most likely buy Bridgestone's Dueler Revo 2 as I get a hell of great employee discount, but hopefully the Nittos will perform well. I really want to take the H3 off road but living near Chicago I don't know of any places nearby.
Hello and Welcome from MI! I wheel with plenty of guys from IL, IN, IA, OH and WI. There will be a bit of a drive involved to get to some really great wheeling, but according to them and myself it is "worth it".
As far as winter driving, like any vehicle take some time in an empty lot and "learn" your vehicle and how it handles is specific situations (ice, snow, slop, etc). Also cycle through the different 4x4 selections when in those specific situations.
