Default H3 navigation gps

We have the factory GPS, I have used aftermarket portable Garmin GPS systems for several years now, this is the first car with a built-in GPS. I am very disappointed with the factory GPS. I cannot get street by street guidance in "rural" areas. The GM navigation is very limited in the coverage area and you cannot upgrade to more street detail. I test drove a 2007 Tahoe and it's GPS has more street detail, unfortunately the software is not compatible and you can't upgrade the H3 GPS to the Tahoe's level. Hopefully the next upgrade will fix this...

that's unfortunate. I really wanted Navi in my H3 but at my purchase time they were having problems so they weren't building them with it. I have it in my Nissan and it hits some areas in the country where there aren't roads shown but it's good overall.

If you plan to keep a car more than about 4 years, you're probably better off without factory Navi. Most OEM suppliers stop updating maps at that point so your system will gradually go obsolete anyway, especially if you like to use Points-of-interest.

If you get lost, just use OnStar. It's a lot easier, just hit one button while you are driving and record the directions with the memo function.

If you just have to have a map display, use a PDA or better yet, a SmartPhone with Navi software. The HP 6515 even has built in GPS receiver.

Greg... My dealer installed the AVN30D nav system by Eclipse-Ten (Fujitsu).. You can go to your nearest car/truck auto center-radio center, etc to ask about having them install a nav system. They aren't that expensive for the info they give you. Mine plays movies too. (For my wife and others on long drives.) I can't be without a nav system... Or I should say... It makes my life a whole lot easier as I am constantly on the road.
