Default H3 Factory Amp Location?

Hi Folks, I'm new here and hoping that I could get some advice from the "experts"! I have a 2010 Hummer H3 "base". The factory radio seems to have lost sound to the right channel speakers front and back this past week (although the tweeters still have sound) . I assumed that the head-unit went bad and picked-up a refurb from a GM refurb radio company. Upon hooking it up, it seems that it works on all 4 channels, but the sound is no where near the quality of the original head unit. SO, is this indicative of an amp problem? If so, where is the factory amp located? OR is this something else that I'm not aware of? Does the old head-unit have a built-in amp inside? (mine is not the Bose setup) The refurb company said that they feel it's the factory amp and not the refurb radio...any help on this would be GREATLY appreciated! I really don't want to spend $ to replace the entire system with aftermarket, I'm probably going to sell the truck within the next year or so...

Welcome to HF!

Your right speakers toasted, croaked, gave up the ghost, puked, took a dump..... etc.

The ONLY separate amp radio option was the Monsoon, it was in the left back side cargo area where yours just has a storage compartment. All the other factory radios have the amp in the head unit.

The factory speakers are what I would call junk. What you are describing happened to a bunch of people. When it happened to me, first the left rear door speaker went, probably was out for a while, just did not notice. Then that same side front door speaker choked. Replaced all four door speakers with some better Pioneer 3 ways.

Look at it as an opportunity to upgrade.

Many threads noting this problem, here is a link to another, has a link in that one to another.....

MUCH appreciated! It seemed strange that both front and back went at the same time, or close to it.

With a base audio system you may wan t to try the JBL 609C.
Great sound (highs/mids/bass) for OEM radios. Should be able to find them for about $85 per pair.

Thanks! They seem to have pretty impressive specs. I'll do a bit more research on them...

They sound nice with factory power - What they are made for.
Not so nice when you put "real" power to them - NOT what they are made for.
