I have a 2006 H3 5 speed manual trans ,base model and I do have a question based on some of the things I see on the forums people are towing with these rigs. Is it ok to run extended periods (like 3 hours or so) pulling a trailer at 3200 rpm (approx) in 4th gear as it requires constant shifting from 5th to 4th towing even my light weight 5x8 V-nose cargo trailer with like 300 pounds in it? If I run in 4th it is fine as far as power.
I have always in the past towed with either v8's or diesels never anything this small. So I am concerned if there is an issue running this little motor that hard . Any information would be great.

 

opinion, since im not a "tower" and have no stick shift!
4h is direct drive so the tranny should be happy and 3200 wlii just hurt your wallet. and of course wear things out sooner but 3 hrs aint much either.

 

No issues with the motor. The tow rating with the 5 speed is lower than the automatic, 3000 vs 4500 lbs. Might want to keep that in mind, especially if you want to run bigger tires in the future.
