Question H3 4x4 help needed (not engaging, blinking only)

I am having an issue with my 4x4 on my 2006 H3. When the high or low buttons are engaged, all they do is blink then revert back to 4x4 auto. When this is happening, there is a feedback noise coming from the right front speaker. Nothing is engaging. Has anyone experienced this before and if so, what was the fix. I would really like to have 4x4 working again. Thank you in advance.

sounds like the shift fork or the encoder motor is ka-put.

Thanks Tainter, I'm inclined to believe that it is probably the encoder motor; whereas if it is the shift fork, I should still hear the gear engaging which I do not hear, correct?

Here is an option. Remove the motor from the transfer case and with the electrical connected press the 4 hi lock button and the motor should activate and turn. if it doesn't it's the motor. The General has a problem with the motors failing on their transfercases.

Yeah, GM encoder motors are notorious for failing. They are also ridiculously expensive, BUT, cheaper aftermarket units will not last. That is one of those parts that is worth spending the extra money on for OEM.
