Default A H2 Obituary I an Afraid

Last week I merged off an interstate in front of A semi going 40(I never saw it) dah. I suffered some bruised ribs, my Hummer was not as lucky. My insurance company inspector intially said the Hummer could be fixed. I called the local body shop I use today, and was told" they could nevermake the Hummer right". The frame is bowed. I know it is just metal but...I got the Hummer new, when I turned 50 and was not taking it too well. 12 years later I have apparently killed it. I am ready to cry. Is there any hope for my Hummer or is my body shop right? Here are two pics of my friend (Henry my Hummer) A H2 Obituary I an Afraid-img_0942.jpg

So sorry about the truck, glad your okay.

I saw new frames available for around 1500.00 or are they thinking the framework in the body is unrepairable.

That's like the third wrecked sister i've seen since I got mine. So I have a plan for mine if something bad happens... buy it back build it into a armored personnel carrier have it wrapped to promote my business and take her to car shows. Then buy myself a Raptor.

I am assuming my body shop is saying that the framework in the body is ruined. He says that there is nothing straight going front to back . When the wheels are straight the front tires do not appear to be straight because the whole body has been crooked. He then asked me "Are you sure you were not hit by a train, that is the damage we normally see when a train meets a vehicle"
As I ramble on,what do I do? I have driven numerous vehicles, and none match the feel of the H2. I hate my rental vehicle,a 2015 Suburban ditto for the Escalade.
I have never had anything totaled. How do I get a fair settlement from Safeco,my insurance company?

Where do I find an H2 to replace my baby? It is(Was) 12 years old with fairly low milage

First I would grab another opinion. It doesn't seem like that much damage IMO but the price of parts would kill any repair shop or insurance. That may have a bigger factor in the repair. Low mileage 2's are more and more expensive as the years go by. They are out there but the prices are usually so outrageous they sit for a long time before being bought. Seems like most new hummer owners are buying 03/04's with millions of miles for cheap lately.

It's fixable. It just has to make sense financially. I would ope for a 2nd opinion.

Get a second quote/opinion. There are other nice low mileage H2 models out there but they are starting to get pricey. Do your homework. Search Autotrader, eBay etc for similar vehicles and get prices. Check Blue Book and make sure you know what it says about the value of your truck with mileage and all of your options. Being informed is your best protection on an unfair settlement.

I had a local acquaintance, who owns a towing service, body shop and an H2 look at my baby. He said something I do not understand. I asked could we not put my Hummer's body on a new frame, since the wheels are cocked about 45 degrees when the steering wheel and all the steering pieces are straight. He said that would probably not fix my problem,it would never track straight because the body's internal frame was twisted. What is he talking about? Does a H2 get its integrity from the frame or from a unibody?

My H2 was a 2003 with 81,000 miles Adventurer Package,Luxury Package,Front wraparound brush guard,Sunroof and nite vision by Rathon. The Safeco adjuster told me that my H2 was totaled and we would get a check for a 18,700 plus sales tax. I told him that was low for KBB,but he informed me that my policy was not replacement but based on market value. I asked him what that was,and as near as I can tell it is a made up number somewhere between trade ACV and retail from KBB,orEdmunds . Has anyone heard of this? i was told there was no way to change the number I was given, since it had gone to a review board because he did nit know what number to put on the H2 because of the night vision. Help, who has fought with an insurance company to get a fairer number?

Glad you're ok. Lucky you were in a hummer! The hummer gets it integrity from the frame. I think what you're body man is saying is that the body has twisted and even if you replace the frame the body mounts won't line up and the body will remain twisted. I know you love your h2 but it will never be the same and you won't be happy.

If you can afford it. Take the money(if you get what you want) and add another 8- 10 k and go buy an 08.

Just my 2 cents
