H2 got towed on 2 wheels
So we all know the hummer is a full time 4wd.
Last night my h2 got towed at 1am. I was extremely curious about how this guy towed me. I was backed into a spot and it was in park. I had no idea how he got it onto a flatbed. Or so i assumed...
i ended up going to pick it up and I actually beat the tow truck driver to the yard. To my HORROR, he had my front end lifted off the ground, with the rearea wheels rolling on the ground. I always thought that was a HUGE NO NO.
I asked him about it, he said he knows he he's doing and that was that. It drove home fine and it's now in the shop for unrelated reasons.
Could this have damaged my car?? How was he able to do all this? Someone please explain this to me

That sounds bad. While it's in the shop, I'd have them make sure everything is ok. When you get it back, make sure everything is ok. 4hi, 4lo getting power to all 4 wheels... Unless it was a really short drive and he went really slow I can't imagine not having damage to the tranny and/or transfer case.
How did he even tow it at all if it was in park? Is it possible the front end was lifted and the rear tires were on a dolly or something?

Dollys are a PIA to hook up! That being said, it should be towed on dollys or a flatbed unless the transfer case is in neutral or the DS disconected. Being in the towing business since I was a kid, I'm guessing he prob just shifted it into neutral underneath the truck.
I hope it didn't get towed far!

New development tho. Yesterday I went out to run some errands, and when I try to go back home, I couldn't get the h2 out of park. Turns out the shift cable broke off under the truck.
This a simple, but expensive fix. Could this have been caused by the tow truck driver?

I'd guess since he didn't have the keys and had no way to shift it properly into neutral, he prob popped off the cable underneath and shifted it at the tranny and then half assed put it back on again. Your cable probably popped off and is not broke. Cheap fix, if thats the case check some repair threads.
Still, not good to tow it on the rear wheels in neutral unless the transfer case is in neutral.

If it is the cable, then this wont help you. But if it is the shifter link to the handle.... this will save you a few hundred

Last year they towed mine from the front end, for 23 miles back to a repair shop for a bad water pump from the casino in Neutral.....no issues....
If you put truck in park, while your still rolling, and not totally stopped, the shift cable will snap....that was my 1st tow......at the bank ATM...lessons learned....lol
