This is probably a very stupid question but I am not too familiar with the external tire carrier so could you tell me how the back door is opened, does the carrier swing out to the side, I am just not sure.

 

Cali, yes they swing out .. some even drop down for easier spare removal .. I believe Predator makes one like that if you are looking to get one.
