H1 engine number
Hi All,
I have 2 H1 1996 hummers and neither has the sticker with the engine number on the front of the engine. Is the number stamped or engraved anywhere else on the block? I have been directed to the left rear before but that is the casting number.

I have the VIN Number, but here in South Africa the cops require the engine number to be verified at the roadworthy check. I cannot get the road license without it. Surely there is something more that a sticker for these engines? all other engines that I have seen have the individual number engraved or stamped on the block.
Its stamped on the block, at the rear, facing up , behind the exhaust manifold tubes and you have to cram your head at just the right spot to see it without removing the exhaust manafold elbows.
Hows SA? I am thinking about moving there of Hitlery wins.

Some of the china after market engines( yes they have those, i just threw one away) they had some numbers stamped on the block facing up next to the cylinder heads near the rear on thats little 3/4" or so step on the block down in the V of the engine.
There are numbers on both sides. One is a engine s# and the other is a production or casting number on a amg block. The numbers are facing up so if you are in the cab and look thru the doghouse , cram your head ( or camera probe) above the exhaust elbows and look down on the very rear of the block behind the exhaust elbows.
