Unhappy H1 dying

My 1997 H1 turbo diesel has a bad habit. Frequently when i am driving along it just stops running as if it is getting no fuel. i pull off the road and sit a while- eventually it starts back up. since i take it out on a deserted beach to fish this is very unsettling. the last trip it would not start after i had been fishing for 2 hours. after trying to get it to turn over for 15 minutes, it finally started and i got off the beach before high tide caught me. what is going on? could it be the IP (what is that anyway??) please help!

Sounds like the PMD. Have you checked the fuel filters? I have had injection pumps go out and they will stall out while driving but I suspect the PMD is your issue.

I have checked and cleaned the fuel filters. Another member with similar problem said it turned out to be the IP and not the PMD. What are these two things- obviously I am not mechanically inclined.

The IP is the injection pump. The PMD is the pump mounted driver. I could type for quite awhile explaning everything but it might be easier for you to follow by going to www.flashoffroad.com

That site has lots of great articles with pictures on what things are, how to replace them, diagnose them, etc.

Check flashoffroad out and then come back with any questions you have.
