Does nayone know if the grille brush guard decreases gas mileage and if so by how much.

I was told that it does - I can see where drag is increased but is it significant??

yes... anything you add that sticks out or weighs down your ride affects gas mileage in a perfect world... along with not having the correct tire pressures, speeding, rapid acceleration, heavy braking.

Unless you are worried about pitting to make a green/white/checker then I don't think its a major issue.

 

Leveling the front, adding taller or wider tires, roof rails, roof racks, side steps, brush guards, all effect mileage. [&o]

 

Don't know how many replies you've rec'd re gas mileage. I have an 07 H3x with the grille brush guard. My ride has an automatic tranny. Am getting 16 city/stop and go and a good 20 mpg highway. Don't know if the brush guard affects the mileage or not, but as you noted, it can't be that significant. I'm getting the same mileage with my Hummer as I got with my 07 Ford Sporttrac with a V8 and auto, so seeing as how the Hummer significantly outweighs the Sporttrac and has less aerodynamic lines, I'm pretty happy with the mileage I'm getting. How about you?

Of course, when we all bought Hummers we didn't exactly think we were going to get Prius MPGs, did we? Up until April 05 I commuted 104 miles daily. If I still had that commute, I'd probably have to rethink my mileage just a little bit. Fortunately, I'm now "retired" and only do a once monthly visit from Williamsburg VA to Gettysburg PA and Balto MD to do consultant work. The rest of the time I can control how many miles I drive. Just hope gas prices don't get too crazy or I may be removing roof rack, brush guard, spare tire, step tubes, seats, mirrors, fenders and anything else I can remove!!!!!!!

 

I heard once that every 100lbs to remove gets you another mpg... but I dunno...
