Bunger is exactly right - that bg is only for looks, not protection. The pic that Tainter posted is of my mother-in-laws broken H3X bg after some idiots tried to steal it while it was parked in her carport. Already found and bought her another one just had to replace it with another of the same because she is really into chrome, blingy things on her H3, just like my wife - who has the same H3X bg on her H3.
