golf anyone ?
The best thing to do...Is go to a local public golf course and sign up for lessons..they are reasonably priced for the amount of training you want...usually taught by one of the club pro(s)...
And then if you're lucky, you may find a partner like Heather here...

if you start golfing be prepared to:
- argue with your wife on a permanent basis.
- hate yourself then hate golfing then hate yourself then hate golfing.......
-loose your job as soon as you will reach a one digit handicap ( don't worry for now, that will take you between 10 and 35 years).
- spend ridiculous amount of money buying THE new set or THE new driver that you BELIEVE will make you play like Tiger Wood.........most of the time for NOTHING!![&:]
If you're prepared for that and some, then it's a wonderful sport. go for it.
Dennis advice is the one to follow to start with.... after that you will find enough golf 'buddies' who will give you the 'right' advices on how to go ahead

WOW!!! I agree with JM!!!
I USED to hack around when I was 12-14, but in High School through University, I played Football and Basketball, so I had to GIVE UP GOLF(no time)!!
Now I'm too nervous to take it up again as I totally could see me being the idiot up at the crack of dawn for my tee time....being WAY TO SERIOUS...wearing GoOfY GoLf ClOtHeS(I'd have to kick my OWN ***)and spending too much ca$h that I coulda spent on my Rig!![8D]

Great Butch, you'll love it!
The best thing to do is get someone who has some exp with it. Have them show you the basic swing so you get a idea of what needs to happen.
Go to a bookstore and get a "Golf for Beginners" book. That book will be your bible for a long time.
The concept of Golf seems easy, but it is one of the hardest sports to learn and play. Give yourself some learning time and don't give up.
Don't worry about going to the course and looking bad. Remember, eveyone started the same way one time or another.
If I can offer 1 piece of advice, it would be KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE BALL AND DON'T PEEK. That sounds easy, but everyone does it[:@]
Kild: Absolutely go get lessons. If you develop a bad swing while learning, it will be harder to "unlearn it". Another book I would recommend would be anything by Dave Pelz. If you have a par three course (sometimes called Pitch and Putt), spend time there. You can shave many strokes off your game if you can learn the short game, which is what Pelz focuses on. I have personally seen the old adage, "Drive for show but putt for dough" many times. Oh, and buy a used set of clubs to start out with-you can save yourself some money and if you don't like the game, you would not have invested a lot of money.

All good advise Joe..
Do you get out on the course much?I hope that Kild enjoys the game as much as I have-even though my game has been in a "funk" lately. I went back to take some tune-up lessons. Seems that I managed to screw up my hand position and then got lazy on my follow through. Ended up with my iron shots going every which way but towards the cup. My wedges are now back "online" but I have some more work to do with the mid to long irons.
