Default GM Announces Serius & XM a Done Deal

He's the e-mail I received from GM-

Dear Robert Martin,

At GM, we’re focused on each and every aspect of our owners’ driving experience. So we’ve naturally paid close attention to the merger of XM and SIRIUS.

The merger has been approved, and now XM and SIRIUS will move forward with their plans. I’m writing today to tell you that we think that’s great news for GM owners. Here are three reasons why:

You’ll have new choices. A combined company will be able to offer an even broader spectrum of audio entertainment. You’ll have the choice of the best of both companies’ programming.

You’ll get new pricing and packages. In fact, there will be exciting new subscription packages that combine the best of what each company has to offer. Packages including the best of both XM and SIRIUS programming will be priced below the cost of subscribing to them separately.

You’ll use the same radios. XM has guaranteed us that no radio will become obsolete due to the merger. Both companies have millions of radios entertaining loyal listeners. The combined company wants subscribers to enjoy those radios more than ever!

There’s nothing you need to do right now. Look for an e-mail in the next few months with programming and pricing specifics. For any questions in the meantime, go to xmradio.com.

XM and SIRIUS will soon bring you the level of service you’ve come to expect, along with new plans and programming that will exceed your expectations. You, as a valued GM owner, deserve nothing less.

Sincerely,

Richard M. Lee
Executive Director
Satellite Radio Services
GM

I have too received the same e-mail from GM
What has got me concerned is that I am happy with just the channels I have on XM at this point,
I am not interested in paying for a combined package that would include XM and Sirus at a price that would be "less" than if I purchased these separately.
I'm hoping that the FCC will not let them raise the rates just because of these so called added benefits.
I have XM in two vehicles and listen to several channels on a regular basis. I have 245 channels to choose from
I certainly don't need any more or want any more.
Sometimes these mergers have definite benefits, other times they just raise rates
Time will tell

I want Sirius so I can listen to all the NASCAR Races. XM doesn't cover them.

Thanks for the email post. I'm holding off on all changes to my radio and keeping the stock XM one inside the dash for now. I'm looking forward to a sports package to get MLB, NFL, and NASCAR. The rest is pretty similar if you ask me. :-)

My point is there are some of us out there that do not want both.

I got the Same email..

As I understand it, XM/Sirius..will downlink two seperate bandwidths..those with an XM reciever will get it and those with Sirius will get the same broadcast...Difference is, you'll be able to choose your programming line up..sorta like cable TV.

Now I wanna see what kind of deal they'll give us[sm=proof.gif]

I have SIRIUS and want to keep it but also getMLB. If there was an ala carte plan it wouldbe a hard sacrifice to make but I may have to trade Martha and Opera for Red Sox games. It wouldnt make sense for them to jack up the pricing since there are plenty of alternatives and HDRADIO is free and struggling to get traction. A price hike in satelite service may give HDRADIO the boost it needs.

I'd like to see them combine all the programming from both, or offer an ala carte option.

That's what a choice in programming means..
