Give the peace of mind
I ended up getting the one u recommended, same one that Widespread Hummers is talking about. It's really good so I can't complain. Yesterday I picked up the liquor store's camera and was able to c whats going on inside from my car while driving nearby (Creepy)..
Between my GPS, radar detector and this monitor wires are ALL OVER the place so I ended up putting the radar detector in the back of the truck (there's a cig plug in the back) and the monitor I put it in one of the cup holders (which sucks cz i'm a big Dunkin fan).
I'm interested to know more about how Widespread hummers was able to place it near the mirror. Can you send pics?

The first picture shows the side pillar cover the wire is behind. It is fed down the corner of the dash there and down to where the pedals are. Under there I simply found a free set of wires with a connector. I used a tester to find a wire that was only energized when the key was on. I cut the cig plug off the end and on one of the wires attached a U shaped crimp connection. I cut one of the sidesw of the U off so I had a l. That l was the perfect size to slip into the hot connection. On the other wire I attached a ring crimp connection and found a screw to ground it to.
In the second picture you can see where the wire for the monitor goes up behind the headliner. Just find something without a sharp end to help you get it up in there.
3rd pic My view with the camera on. Its hard to make out but in the bottom of the screen you can see my hitch cover which is flipped up
Hopefully I explained it well enough

Sorry just saw your post. Thats awesome!!! good job!! So by finding the cable that only gets energized when the key is on - meaning that you don't have to worry about turning it off at night? It runs only when you turn the key on? Won't the occasional blue screen bug you?
I just had to jump start my car b/c I forgot to turn off the monitor at night and it killed my battery :S From now on I'm gonna turn the power off every night or even unplug it (would it make a difference?)
your method doesn't seem very hard but then again I'm not good with electrical work. we'l see..

Guys to be honest answering this question asked at the beginning, from my personal experience I got this hummer with low mileage like 2 months ago an been in and out at the mechanic for different reasons more than 5 times. The reasons were typical problems common with the Hummer. Do you really think they r that efficient? I have owned a Toyota for 5 years with high mileage and never seen a mechanic and I barely take care of it
I have heard lots of instances where people have had zero issues... That being said... You did get it used and they atleast changed the air filter do who knows what else they tinkered with, not a fair statement, but this day and age you never know... Another thing to think about is that, not knowin which model Toyota you had, H3s were only made for 06-10... And GM was never known as a co. That owned up to having gremlins w/ their models... I'm sure if they had kept making H3s they would have made the "perfect" one... But they were still running w/ ideas when everything fell apart...
Do you have iPhone or Android? You can download apps that use the phone and ELM327 OBDII adapters to do all that. From $5-150 for the app and $15-45 for the adaptor/s. Torque Pro for android is one I'm looking at and its $5 for the app plus a $15 OBDII/miniUSB interface on amazon, or spend a little more for a bluetooth capable adaptor.

Yes. I used a very simple electrical test light, the kind tat looks like an ice pick with a bulb in the handle and checked the wires by turning the key on and off. It turns off when the vehicle shuts off. I do get a blue screen blinking occasionally if I dont manually turn it off using the button on the monitor but it is better than a dead battery.
Its very simple to do, even with limited skills, so I don't think you will have a problem. If you need more pics let me know.
