Gas Mileage
Hi,
Hubby and I are supposed to have our 2009 H3 delivered on Monday, but now are wondering if we jumped the gun a bit. We currently have an Escape, gets 24mpg highway. We drive mostly highway since we live in the sticks. But, we are starting to wonder if the gas mileage is going to be really bad.
Would love to hear what you all get.
Thanks for sharing with this newbie

I drive an '08 H3 with a manual tranny. I get 18-19 mpg around town in the summer - that's at a fairly consistent 35-40 mph with very few stops. That drops to 16-ish in the cold months. Highway is about 1 mpg lower, give or take (this car is as aerodynamic as a brick).
But, consistent with stevek813's comment, economy was not a major factor in my decision to buy a Hummer.

My I-5 averaged 17-18 stock, and my V-8 averages 16 stock. I have gotten 20 on long trips. Here is what you get with a Hummer over an escape. Ground clearance, all wheel drive with a low range, and a better handling for dirt roads.
The HUMMER H3 was designed and produced for the person who wanted an SUV that would perform Very Well OffRoad and be comfortable enough to be a Daily Driver. Fuel consumption is of a concern but not a major one. Some of the H3 lineup are even more capable OffRoad and they have even less fuel mileage.
If we look at ANY true 4x4 vehicle worth it's weight OffRoad (4DR Wranger, FJ Cruiser, Grand Cherokee, HUMMER H3, etc.) they will not be seeing 24 MPG on the highway.
If people purchased any vehicle based on looks first then thought about fuel mileage...
Well I won't get into that.

I get around 20 ish above and below at times. I have 265 duratac and nothing extra bolted on except a couple performance parts which is probably lighter anyway. I have an 06 lux with chrome auto trans, 3.5 instead of 3.7 the 2009 has. Good luck with yours.
