Default Gas Mileage with 20's

Hey everyone, I am looking to buy some 20's and put some 35 or 33" nitto terra grapplers and I was wondering if anyone had done this and know what their gas mileage has changed to.

With my 20s, I get at least 18-20mpg on highway, long as I keep it under 70mph

nitto terra graplers and helo maxx rim also true flow cold air intake with k&n filter, magnaflow dual cat back exhaust and a-course the pcm tune and a bunch of other mod's which will take a-bit to list but u get the jist of it and also i don't have a heavy foot and maybe it helps having a 2 yeard old and a 7 week old in the h3 with me always and a wife that probally will nag me if i go to fast but then again the hummer was not built for speed. but yeah 19 city for me and its pretty consistent, i don't go on the hgway and if i do its real short distance so i don't no what i would get cause if its far i take the wife's car.

Hey Lucky,
Im sorry about asking a million question but Im needing to know where I can get all my stuff right...

Is there anyway you could send me an exact link to the intake and stuff that you have?

And what exactly does a "cat back" system do? I have been asking all my buddies and no one seems to know.

And last question, i may have already asked you.. do you have torsion keys or cranked your T bars? if you cranked them did you lose the smooth ride that you once had...

I appriciate all the help..

Generally speaking, a larger diameter tire will give you slightly better highway mileage, due to lower rpm at cruising speed, but slightly poorer city mileage due to lower rpm (lower torque) at acceleration. It's a tradeoff and largely a wash. Any overall mileage gain that could result from bigger tires could be designed into the vehicle by simply changing the gear ratios. If it were that easy, the manufacturers would do it and get the mileage police off their backs.

If you do it right you will use a 20" low profile tire that has the same diameter as the original. Your mpg should be the same. If you go to a larger diameter tire your spedo/odo will be off. Your braking will suffer also as the rolling mass increases. It also taps some of your HP as you try to turn the larger heavier wheels.
