Front brake noise????
Greetings all, I haven't had my H2 for 1k yet. It has 87k on it though. One quick question is both my wife and I hear a quick little metal grind noise occasionally when the brakes are first pressed. Sounds almost as if one pad is loose, then grabs when the brake is pressed further? It's a very quick sound, only in the beginning of the lever travel and sounds as though it's the driver front side. Suggestions?
Well, my brakes have always squeeked once in the morning then it goes away. However mine is a squeak and not a grinding noise. I would check the brake pads. if they look good maybe take a close look at the hardware kit ( the tin clips that hold the brake pad in place) if they are very corroded and not shiny then maybe the pad is shifting a little inside the caliper housing. (not a safety issue). If you use oem pads they come with the hardware kit in the box or if you want to just replace the kit I believe you can use any aftermarket kit from pep boys or whoever your local auto parts store is. Just make sure you put grease on them where the brake pad backing plate meets the tin clip. it is supposed to slide freely on there and when they corrode they don't allow the pad to slide freely which could cause that feeling/noise that your getting.
Thanks for the response. I looked briefly at them visually this afternoon. I did notice a line cut right in the middle of the disk, all the way around as if it were cut in buy an old pad rivet. The pad appears as though it has enough meat that it wouldn't be the case..... I will pull the wheel tomorrow to see for sure, paying close attention to the hardware clip kit thing.
Thanks
Thanks
Okay, So I pulled my front driver tire off this AM. The caliper has was treated by the dealer with a quick coat of silver. The pads are great with plenty of meat left and the hardware is all installed. I did notice that the rotor has a slight fore and aft ply on the studs but that should not have any effect once the wheel is torqued down. So I just made sure the caliper could adjust itself and buttoned it up. Didn't notice if it's still doing it's little funky noise yet.
OMG who put those lug nuts on with an impact driver!!!! Jerks!
Cranked the torsions up 2 1/2 turns while I was under as well. Sites level now

No I didn't........ Hmmnnn I'm not sure how that front end goes together. I can see how that could be an issue though. I'll jack it up again this am.
I need some kind of a manual for it. Any suggestions? Chilton, Hayes?? Other?

Okay, It appears to be just the pads on the right. I checked with a slow creep and my spouse applying pressure to the brake. Only the right front.... There is a Service bulletin on them as well.
There aren't any wheel bearings per say. It's the whole front knuckle/hub bearing. Ball joints, outer D/S and tie rod. 4 bolts and it should come off. It'll get checked once I do my 12"

Update, So I just finished a 125 mile trip. Brakes are great! No noise. I think it was the pads no being able to move as designed since the used car dealer coated them with a heavy coat of silver.
Last rain I still had some leaks so I have all my lights and bolts sealed up. No I am thinking it's the top windshield seal. It appears that it's been off and prob had a new windshield installed. I don't expect these type of mass production/high employee turnover companies to do repairs well.......
We'll see next rain.
