I have a 03 h2,i have the truck in 4hi and when i turn, the truck binds up.it feels like it is in 4hiloc.how can i get the front to unlock??the transfer case shifts back and forth between 4hi-4hiloc and 4lowloc fine.but the front axle will not release in 4hi.the message board say's"service 4wd".need help!!!

 

I'm sure you've tried this. Drive in reverse an almost any 4x4 I've owned this has worked.

But in your case with the service 4 wd message it most likely going to be the diff lock actuator. ( not sure if that's the correct terminology).

Try finding the fuse for it. Maybe you will get lucky.

You could also try cleaning the connector plug to the actuator with contact cleaner and re- assemble with dielectric grease to keep moisture out.

If it's sending a message it is probably sending a code. Do you have an Obd2 scanner or access to one. If not buy one can usually get them on sale for around 100. They come in very handy for troubleshooting. After you get the code. Google it. You tube it and fix it.

My money is on the actuator.

Id suggest the drive in reverse suggestion also.

And you can get bluetooth OBD scanner on Amazon for $10-$25ish.
Then DL a program to your smartphone/tablet and Bobs your Uncle.
