I'm in the process of replacing my stock exhaust manifold with a Magniflow header on my 2007 H3 and I'm stuck. I've got everything loose on the manifold but my AC hose is in the way of removing it. I'm guessing I either have to remove the hose or cut the manifold. Can anyone fill me in on removing the hose or some other magic to get the manifold out?

 

I have never removed mine, however, I will soon because I can hear a leak. It appears that your heat shield is still installed and perhaps if you remove it you'll gain some clearance. Hopefully this illustration will help you!

 

Nope, heat shield is removed in the picture. Trying to get the top O2 sensor out but it's in pretty good. Also, trying to remove the studs that connect the manifold to the pipe to get more clearance. Not looking good. I'll just have to disconnect the AC hose and get it re-charged when done I guess.

 

I'm an idiot, I meant that metal cover/thing UNDER the manifold. I don't know what it is that's under that cover, axle??? But yea, that sucks, let me know what was the outcome.

 

On this thread the guy removed the heater hose so that might buy you some clearance to push the manifold back and further up. Good Luck!

Got it out. What a pain in the a$$! had to disconnect the AC line at the firewall.


Couldn't get the top O2 sensor out so I have to replace that. Now the fun begins. 2 broken exhaust manifold studs to extract. I've been spraying with PB for two days so hopefully they won't be too tough. Now the problem is that one is in the very front and I can't get a straight shot at it with my drill so I'll have to take off the power steering pump. The hits just keep coming! Anyone have any magic tips on extracting bolts?

It took a couple weeks of drilling out, penetrating fluid, broken extractor, ordering special bit and centering tool, more drilling, more penetrating fluid, extremely careful use of extractor, heating with torch, more penetrating fluid, and finally! There is no better feeling in the garage than the release of a stuck and broken bolt. Actually two of them! Got the new Magnaflow header in and everything back together. Runs great with maybe a little more hp and definitely quieter. Now to get the AC evacuated and recharged. Had to do the battery "reset" to get my windows and locks to work again. Thank God for this forum! Couldn't have done it without you guys.
