Default engine oil

Just purchased 09 hummer. Don't have any idea what type of oil is in it. Standard or synthetic? I have used Royal Purple synthetic in my motorcycle and it has great performance. Does anyone know of any reason why synthetic oil should or should not be used? and does anyone put Royal Purple in their Hummer, what do they think of it.
Thanks

Huge data piles out there show virtually everything that uses motor oil, runs more efficiently on full synthetic, including dyno pulls with the same vehicle same day, same machine right before and after the change from dino oil to full synthetic. Waste of $$, not hardly. Now if oil prices continue to fall, dino oil may get cheap enough again to change the cost analysis.

Royal Purple, AMSOIL, IMHO aren't worth the effort to track them down. Good stuff, just not on as many shelves. I use Mobil 1 and stock up on some when I see a sale.

Wifey's ride has had Valvoline Synpower & Penzoil Platinum ran through it as well.

Skip the additives, just stick with full synthetic, do not change the oil until the GM OLMS tell you to in the DIC.

x2 full syn = longer engine life & better performance///

GM has the best recipe its called: DEXOS

Mobil 1 is dexos approved

dexos®

Mobil 1 syn has been around the longest, so I stick with them, and never had a engine failure in 4 decades of driving.

Run Mobil1 in every combustion engine we own.

We stock up when Costco has a blowout sale.

Most name brand dino oils are good if changing at 3000 miles, but for a few $ more you get much more protection on cold start up AND hot temps, and more miles per change. ill stick with Mobil one, in fact GM tells you to use mobil 1 in the corvettes and in my 06 gto and many other performance engines. with good reason

Thanks for all the info. Will put full synthetic at next oil change. Local lube shop carries Mobil 1 and my local Walmart carries Royal Purple on the shelf. Now its a matter of price and convenience.
Thanks again for all responses.
