Default Electric supercharger

My cousin bought a crappy electric supercharger the other day, and I must say it looks like a piece of crap. There is no way these things can work, right?[/align]

Someone can correct me if wrong, but the short answer is NO, these things do not work. The general principle is correct, ie if you are able to get a more efficient or higher volume of air into the engine, andabetter combinedair/gas mixture you should see a performance increase. The problem is that the fans they use are not nearly powerful enough to create the pressure needed to make any appreciable gain. While these fans may tout high CFM numbers, it is the pressure that creates the boost. The size of electric motor, and the current draw it would require to produce enough pressure would require whole new wiring and lots more batteries and charging units to run them. High performance race cars use these but they only run them for short periods of time and cost thousands of dollars. Also, there is tremendous risk in running an electric motor like this all of the time. Imagine putting one of these things in front of your intake and having it explode or break pieces into your engine. The cheap crappy one like your cousin bought is just that, cheap and crappy, and will do little or nothing. Not worth the time or money.
