Default Dual air compressor install

I've been doing upgrades to my H3 for awhile - but thought I'd post my latest one here and see if anyone is interested in seeing the other stuff I've done.

I did try to find these in a non-chrome version

their new home.... they need to stay non-submerged and not in a direct path of water... this is about the best I've got available

So I'll have a compressor fitting on the outside of the rail on the passenger side

eventually, I'll box this with 3/16 or 1/8 plate (rock slider) - so there will be little change this end will get knocked off.... even right now, it's quite a ways into the vehicle - so I'm confident it'll take some work for me to knock it off.

the only real downside to the location - heat - it's got no where to go, so I may have to put a fan in there to keep them cooler.... I'm seriously considering a wet-location computer CPU fan.... just enough to pull air across the heads.... thoughts? suggestions?

Nice, Be careful if you offroad in the mud. What about when you wash your h3? A lot of carwashes have those underbody sprayers to spray off the undercarriage. We spray underneath all the time.

And I love you guys - it makes keeping my rig so much easier.... even keeps my hi-lift jack clean on my rack

So here's the reasons of why the air compressor is there:
1) They say it's okay to mount in the engine compartment - that gets hotter than where I mounted it.
2) that area never gets submerged - and even if it does the air intake is above the axle vents.... plus, I can't imagine a situation where I'll be in 30" of water and using the air compressors
3) if it does get wet, the muffler will warm it up enough to keep it dry it out quickly.
4) There will be a splash shield on the wiring end
5) Heat is, by far and away, the biggest problem with these tiny air compressors - heat generated by the compressor itself... and that is my biggest concern... the muffler might get that space to 90*... and yes, I was under there with my laser heat gun testing prior to install.

Just as an aside, we use these all the time for wheeling (the stand-alone ones) - and bury them in snow to keep them from overheating) so water infiltration really hasn't been something I've seen from my use of them

And another thing (lol) - look at the area where it's at - I have 100k miles on my H3 and I've never pressure washed (other than car washes) that area of the truck....

Nice, but what are they for??

Why dual ones??

I just bough an air compressor to inflate tyres as needed when off road, is that what these are for?? Or are they for something else?

This is what I bought, used it the first time two days ago, works fine and stores in a carry bag along with hoses etc that came with it.

I had an air compressor like that.... it melted. I do Search and Rescue professionally - so there is a lot of airing up and down of multiple rigs.... . twice the air compressors with 4x the cfm output makes the melt down far less likely to occur.... plus, I suppose I could run air tools (if I brought them along).

and here's the picture of the melted one (okay, to be fair, the overtemp switch melted and created a big paperweight after filling two tires)

I see, if doing multiple vehicles I can see why you need that set up.

My compressor did fine pumping up my tyres the other day, and came with 18 months replacement warranty, would not use it on a fleet of cars though.

generally everyone has an air compressor - but we take newbies up as well; and their gear load isn't always what it should be
continuing on with the install
I made a cap for the end to prevent pressurized water from hitting the end of the air compressor - according to other installs, that will be fine (crossing fingers)

ran some wiring

the air outlet is attached to flexible hoses and well zip-tied to a bracket.... I didn't hard mount it because I suspect I won't like that spot.... seriously, I'm considering putting the air outlet inside the car to keep contamination out of the end.

and run to a relay under the hood

I still need to run a pressure switch and wire the dash switch... but at least now I can hot wire it and use it.

Are you concerned about the compressor overheating because it seems to be completely enclosed. Those fins around the motor need to have air to keep the motor cool while running.
