Whenver my doors lock (i.e. when I shift into Drive from Park), I hear a 2 second whine coming from the rear passenger door.

I took the whole door apart and found that its coming from the actual locking mechanism/ actuator. I tried getting some lube in there but didn't seem to do the trick.

When I actually held the cable for the lock and locked the car with my remote, it would whine only when there was something pulling against it.

Any other suggestions before I look at getting a replacement lock/ actuator?

If it bugs you you need to replace the actuator.
I have heard of them lasting for months or even years while making that "noise".
