Default Does anybody run 2 sets of wheels?

Does anybody run different sets of wheels for winter/summer? I'm thinking about buying a whole different set of wheels and tires for summer driving and keeping the set I have now (35" Duratracs) to use just in the winter.

Dare I ask.... why?

I understand doing this for cars and regular vehicles, but to be honest I wouldnt bother on a Hummer. Just my 2 cents though.

I agree!

You can use whatever tire and wheels on your H3 for a year round!

I know 3 or 4 wheeling buddies that run a set of 35s for wheeling, and the stock 33 duelers for regular pavement pounding. You can pick up a set of silver painted (base model) OEM rims for $25.00 or less each.

One guy in IL swaps em back n forth almost every weekend. Too much work for my time constrained butt.

This is why I just bought an aggressive set of A/T's. Didn't feel like getting M/T's and swaping tires/wheels. Plus, I'm driving a Hummer so I don't care about the wheels I've got on it. I paid $200 for my aftermarket ones and they're polished so if they get nasty this winter I'll just polish them back up. Just find a happy medium and you won't have to mess with it. But if you must have two sets, go with Doc Olds' suggestion.

I was kicking around the idea of putting bigger wheels on during the summer. Something like 18's or 20's. I would probably put 33's on them to help save on gas. I tend to get pretty bad MPG during the winter anyway, so it won't matter that I have 35's.

It's still just a thought at this point and I was just looking for feedback to see if anybody else did this.

Not a H3 owner (yet), but I can tell you why I've considered it on my Jeep... M/Ts are great in summer, offroad, on rocks, etc. but they suck on hard packed snow. A/Ts are much better on packed snow or on a thin coating of snow, and some can be had with the snowflake thing.

With my M/Ts wearing down I'll probably just switch to an aggressive A/T and run it year round, I don't do enough hard core stuff anymore to need M/Ts.

If I had to commute with my truck, I'd likely get a second set of wheels with 265 highway tread tires for handling and economy.

I just bought a set of stock rims for $ 30 each. Thought I would try a set of 35's on them and see how much power drop I get along with mileage.

I did this also because if I venture off road and gouge up a rim, It won't bother me as much. We will see how this works out

Oddly enough, this thread may lead to me buying an H3 sooner than planned. Yesterday the wife dropped her Avalanche off at the shop and took my Jeep to work. When she got home we went to pick up her truck and while there I decided to buy a set of aggressive 32" A/Ts (15" wheel), this thread had me thinking about winter tires. After much searching through several of their suppliers the ONLY option they could come up with were BFG A/Ts, and they were out of stock everywhere with an unknown in-stock date.

At that point I looked across the street at the Chevy dealership and said to the wife, "I think I'll just go over there and trade it in on an H3." I was half joking, but her reply was, "you should, why don't you?" Apparently it only took one day of her commuting in my Cherokee to push for me to get something nicer.
